Santa Fe Pillows

The path North on the Camino Real.
A long drive from Las Cruces along the Rio Grande.
Endless stretches of vast, obscure desert.
Nighttime in New Mexico.
Artists thoughts linger longer than usual.
As the hours pass and the approach is near,
A sudden anticipation appears.
The Jewel of New Mexico . . .
The city lights of Santa Fe.
Its as if the night sky sprinkled
its stars on the desert Floor.
Glistening late night thoughts
echo the Sangre de Christo mountains
in the shape of pillows.
