Heaven Forbid! - or, Content Boundaries

Heaven forbid I choose to use
My right of free speech
Heaven forbid that I don’t write
The way your teachers teach
Heaven forbid I speak my mind
My eyes aren’t clouded
I’m not blind
To this fucked-up world around me

I think it’s awesome your life’s a rose
But keep in mind - my life blows
So I’m not gonna sugar-coat myself
So YOU’LL feel safe!
Give me a mother-humpin’ break!
I need to say what I have to say
To keep my demons underway
It’s my only hope

Please don’t take that away from me!

If this is truly a celebration of prose
We must celebrate ALL words
Not just these and those -
Especially the ones I say the most!

So don’t be so afraid
Of a sound your mouth makes
Instead, embrace its power
And let go, for Heaven’s sake!

Say it with me now: “SHIIIIIT!”
