Allegro for Harp

Outside a sullen grey
And grey as well
Inside the festival tent
As winds began to play
An allegro by Ravel.
And when the solo instrument
Swept in with a jubilant run,
As if by natural law
Some accident cleared the skies;
Beneath the canvas coverings
The clouds dropped from our eyes
And with senses heightened to one
In the sudden gold, we saw
The sound of exulting strings
And heard the sun.
