A COUPLE I KNOW
On the ocassion of their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
On the journey through life, with its pleasures and strife.
We meet disparate folk from backgrounds diverse.
There are know-alls with style and con-men with guile;
Then humorists with whom we just love to converse
And pessimists dour, with thoughts that are sour,
Of pestilence, war and of course climate change.
There are some that are jewels and others are fools,
While some become friends, we would never exchange.
Well I know this couple, a perfect example,
Of everyday folk that we all love to know.
Stout pillars of strength, somehow on our wavelength.
A couple on whom we are proud to bestow,
The mantle of friends, just humble Godsends.
Always pulling their weight, never shirking a chore.
A smile on their face, they give with good grace,
Of their time, their effort, their skills and much more.
For fifty odd years, through both laughter and tears,
This couple I know, have been married and true.
They have nurtured a family and handled life grandly;
Proud citizens true, who just seem to accrue
The trust of their friends and love that transcends,
The knocks in this life and troubles untold.
They support each other, no matter the bother;
For what they have togther, is pure rolled gold.
Pikey.
