Bio

Nancy Jean Carrigan is a native of Illinois where school children know all about fog with little cat feet and men with big shoulders. She started writing poems and short stories on pieces of paper her mother gave her to keep her out of mischief while her father preached on Sunday. She has been writing ever since. Her poem, Notes on an Ancient Flute, recently won the Dancing Poetry competition in San Francisco and has been published in Chinese as well as English. Two years ago, she was guest of the Chinese at a convocation of poets in T’ian. She is a member of the Poets Club of Chicago and the Illinois State Poetry Society, appearing in many readings in the Chicago area. A published author of two science-fiction adventures co-written with her husband Richard and an active visual artist, she has been involved in the dance field as a designer of sets and costumes for several companies in Chicago. She first visited Aspen in 1968 when her husband was here on physics business and the family returned frequently, finally purchasing their condo here ten years ago. She immediately became involved in the Aspen Writers’ Group and the Summer Words workshops. She is working on a collection of poetry about listening to music in Aspen and a chapbook on living in the two venues she loves, Aspen and Chicago.
